Accordionfestival Vienna – Austria

March 2nd 2025
Holda Paoletti-Kampl

“FEMOSO” Under the theme FEMOSO (a play on words from femme _ woman and famos _ great), this year’s International Accordion Festival is putting women on the accordion in the foreground. That’s why the festival opening is also dedicated to two exceptional accordionists: Anne Niepold  from Belgium will play, accompanied by a string quartet, on February 22nd in the Ehrbar Hall. The following day, the Finnish Johanna Juhola will present her program “Reaktori” in the Theater Akzent.

In total, over 120 artists, including around 47 hand-operated instrumentalists, from almost 20 different countries will perform at the 26th International Accordion Festival.

But the festival itself is also expanding.  For the first time, the accordion festival is collaborating outside of Vienna: in Graz, the live music club Tube’s will be used and a collaboration has been entered into with the cultural association Weltenbühne . In St. Ulrich in Greith in Styria, the Greithhaus offers a renowned stage, and two renowned world music associations, Straden-Aktiv and the Kulturforum in Bad Radkersburg , are taking part.
