
“FEMOSO” Under the theme FEMOSO (a play on words from femme _ woman and famos _ great), was this year’s International Accordion Festival is putting women on the accordion in the foreground. That’s why the festival opening was also dedicated to two exceptional accordionists: Anne Niepold from Belgium performed, accompanied by a string quartet, in the Ehrbar Hall. Finnish Johanna Juhola presented her program “Reaktori” in the Theater Akzent.
In total, over 120 artists, including around 47 hand-operated instrumentalists, from almost 20 different countries performed at the 26th International Accordion Festival.
But the festival itself was also expanding. For the first time, the accordion festival was also collaborating outside of Vienna: in Graz, the live music club Tube’s was used and a collaboration has been entered into with the cultural association Weltenbühne . In St. Ulrich in Greith in Styria, the Greithhaus offered a renowned stage, and two renowned world music associations, Straden-Aktiv and the Kulturforum in Bad Radkersburg , took part.
