“Bandoneon Solo – Vol. VI – Bandobop” is the 6th album of the series dedicated to bandoneon solo recordings by the Italian (Denmark-based) bandoneon player, pianist and composer Paolo Russo, a tribute to the glorious bebop era (check out all his 24 albums on his website paolorusso.com). On this album Paolo Russo has chosen 12 tunes by some of the most representative American musicians who have revolutionized and re-invented the jazz language, including Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, among many others.
In Paolo’s own words: “It is for me an experimental album: I wanted to explore a different approach to the instrument, whose history and literature has very few examples to follow, and therefore a quite challenging and exciting project. My first connection to jazz music, as a teenager, started with the piano, and the music from the bebop era was some of the most attractive for me as for many musicians of my generation. Transferring the knowledge to the bandoneon has been a slow and intense process that lasted many years and finally I felt the urge of documenting it by collecting some of the most iconic tunes and rearranging them on the bandoneon”
