Blowzabella Workshop Festival – Belgium

October 1st 2024
Holda Paoletti-Kampl

Fri 04/10 – 20.30
Sat 05/10 – 10.00
Sun 06/10 – 10.00
Blowzabella have a unique, rousing, drone-infused sound played with a fantastic sense of melody, rhythmic expertise and pure feeling. They write their own music which is influenced by English and European traditional dance music. All band members compose; many of their songs have become “standards” in the modern English/European folk repertoire and are played by people all over the world. Bands all over Europe who experiment with folk music often mention Blowzabella as an important source of inspiration.
Therefore, the idea quickly grew within the band to share their expertise and especially approach with the public. With success because every year the band organizes several Blowzabella weekends in the UK and in Europe. These festivals are always a creative melting pot of masterclasses, initiations as balls and concerts. The goal of this festival is that everyone can participate, beginners as well as advanced musicians as people who have never danced before. All in a relaxed and warm atmosphere! All Blowzabella members are experienced in teaching and they also invite various guest teachers.
For this first edition in Dranouter the teachers are: Blowzabella (UK) + Benoit Micaud (F/ Hurdy-gurdy) + La Confrérie des Muchards de Saint-Druon. (Musocha/doodle)
Of course there is also a concert as a ball and there are many jam possibilities. The exact program and schedule can be found here You can buy, besides separate tickets for the workshops, also combi tickets for the whole weekend as specifically for the ball and concert.
This workshop weekend was originally planned for October 2023. Tickets already purchased for the 2023 edition remain valid,

FOLK DANCE – All ages and levels are welcome. There is plenty to learn for experienced dancers too.
BLOWZABELLA / JO FREYA & DAVE SHEPHERD teach some of the great English and European traditional dances that have made Blowzabella popular over the last 30 years. The aim of the workshop is to help people get the most out of a Blowzabella dance/ball. The whole band plays acoustically – so it is an ‘unplugged’ Blowzabella ball.

DIATONIC ACCORDEON (G/D) – intermediate/advanced

ANDY CUTTING. Appropriate. To get the most out of this workshop, you should be able to learn a simple folk dance melody by ear and maintain it at the right tempo with others.

This workshop is divided into two sessions on Saturday and one on Sunday. So price and ticket is valid for all three workshops!

Sessions: 14h00 – 15h30 + 16h00 – 17h30 + session Sunday 29/10: 10h30 – 12h30
