It’s a bit disappointing, but the Guinness World Record attempt was not successful. On May 17, 2026, 4,066 accordion players gathered in Velenje, Slovenia, and played “Na Golici” simultaneously. While that is an impressive number, it fell short of the current Guinness World Record of 5,282 players, which was set in China.
The event was still a major success:
It set a new Slovenian record.
It set a new European record.
Around 11,000 spectators attended.
Accordion players from Slovenia and other countries took part in the performance.
Considering that Slovenia has a population of only about 2 million people, bringing together more than 4,000 accordion players in one place is quite an achievement. The organizers had hoped for more than 5,500 participants, but they ultimately came up short of the Guinness target.
So, in summary:
No new Guinness World Record
New Slovenian record
New European record
A remarkable celebration of Slovenian musical culture
A little unfortunate they missed the world record, but gathering over 4,000 accordion players for a single performance is still something most countries could only dream of accomplishing.
