“The Orkney Folk Festival has long been a cornerstone of the islands’ cultural calendar, drawing musicians and audiences from across the globe to celebrate the rich tapestry of Orcadian and traditional music. Since its inception in 1982, the festival has grown in both size and reputation, becoming a beloved annual gathering that showcases the best of local talent alongside internationally acclaimed artists.

This year’s festival, taking place from May 21 to 24, 2026, promises to be no exception. With a diverse lineup featuring performers from Scotland, Ireland, Finland, Cape Breton, and the United States, the programme highlights the festival’s commitment to fostering cross-cultural musical exchange. Audiences can look forward to an array of concerts, workshops, and informal sessions held in venues across Orkney’s mainland and outer islands.

In addition to the musical performances, the festival will introduce several new events aimed at engaging the wider community. These include a family-friendly ‘stomp’ in Kirkwall and a traditional dance in Stromness, offering opportunities for festival-goers of all ages to participate in the festivities. As always, the festival remains rooted in its celebration of Orcadian heritage, with local musicians and storytellers playing a central role in the programme.”
