The Shillelagh Ball is a party!
They enjoy playing a repertoire that includes big scottishes and waltzes that go round and round, family bourrées and circles that bring people together.
It’s also an opportunity to introduce people to the dances of their region, known as ‘Flemish’.
For some years now, they have been working with Estelle Bacquaert on adapting folk dances for the ball. These choreographies, often recent but based on tradition, have been passed on to them by Marie-

Christine and Patrick Bollier, or Renaat Van Craenenbroeck. Flanders, from Lille to the Netherlands, the mills, the ports, the beer, the chips… it’s a whole universe, a whole culture that emerges in the background.
And with this record, they want to defend a certain way of playing for the ball. Recorded the CD during four memorable evenings with dancers from the region.
Shillelagh say: For us, those acoustic balls on the Péniche Gédéon, those ‘dances on the water’, will always be precious moments.

Ils ons plaisir à jouer un répertoire où se côtoient grosses scottishes et valses qui tournent, bourrées des familles et cercles qui rassemblent.
C’est aussi l’occasion de faire découvrir les danses de par chez nous, dites ” flamandes “.
Depuis quelques années ils travaillent avec Estelle Bacquaert sur l’adaptation de danses folkloriques pour le bal. Ces chorégraphies, souvent récentes mais issues de la tradition, nous ont été transmises par Marie-Christine et Patrick Bollier, ou encore Renaat Van Craenenbroeck. Les Flandres, de Lille jusqu’aux Pays-Bas, les moulins, les ports, la bière, les frites… c’est tout un univers, une culture qui apparaît alors en filigrane.
Et puis à travers ce disque, c’est une certaine façon de jouer pour le bal que nous souhaitons défendre. Nous l’avons enregistré lors de quatre soirées mémorables où l’on a invité des danseurs de la région.
Shillelagh dit: Pour nous, ces bals en acoustique sur la Péniche Gédéon, ces ” danses sur l’eau “, resteront des moments précieux.
