SVÄNG is a harmonica ensemble that has taken the instrument to new heights in its 20-year career. The ensemble’s original repertoire combines artistic ambition and Kaurismäki humor, and its own compositions and interpretations of classics (including Sväng plays Chopin and Sväng plays Sibelius ) have charmed listeners around the world.
Sväng has released several albums, the latest of which is In Trad we Trust (2020, Galileo Music). The band, formed by three musicians who graduated from the Sibelius Academy, is anything but academic: in their playing, the harmonica reveals its limitless possibilities.
The band has performed in 27 countries, including France, Germany, Japan and the UK, and wowed an audience of millions on BBC’s Jools Holland’s New Year Show in 2008. Songlines Magazine has called Sväng “the Kronos quartet of the harmonica”. Sväng invites its listeners on a bewildering sonic journey that is both boundary-breaking and life-giving.
